...When I found a replacement for my apartment, I found a lot more
than a place to stay. The woman renting the apartment was also the
head of a marriage agency there in Bishkek. As soon as I unpacked
my bags, she invited me into her office and asked me what kind of woman
I wanted to meet I told her I wasn’t all that excited about meeting
any more Russian women after my experience. She responded by handing
me a stack of photos about a foot high.
OK, so I had to look.
My reluctance soon dissipated, and soon had a list of about a dozen
women I wanted to meet. She wasted no time setting up my first meeting,
and for the next week and a half introduced me to a constant stream of
women. A first, it seemed like Disneyland for bachelors, meeting attractive
women on a nonstop basis. On the other hand, it was surprisingly
difficult. For one thing, I generally see one woman at a time, and
the experience of seeing more than a dozen at once was rather stressful,
believe it or not. But in the end, it was really a personal growth
kind of experience. For somebody who has been single for nearly twenty
years, it was quite the culture shock to be hanging out at a marriage agency,
where the primary goal of the people there is, well, marriage...
